Michael E. Burgess was born to Edward and Ferne Burgess. He was raised with his sister Barbara Anne on the family ranch in the Big Muddy Valley. Michael attended school in Moose Jaw, Sask, but holidays and weekends found them at the ranch. After High School, Michael attended Olds College where he received a diploma in Livestock Production. He then returned to the ranch where he long to be. In May 1979, Michael married Tamela J. Wirtz. Tamela was also raised in the Big Muddy Valley, as the ranch she was raised on is just four miles directly south of the Burgess Ranch, on the south side of the border. Tamela’s parents are the late Todd Wirtz of Outlook, Montana and Peggy Wirtz of Plentywood, Montana. Michael and Tamela have three great kids. Tiffany was born in 1981. She, like her sister and brother attended High School in Coronach, Sask. After graduating she attended Assiniboine Community College receiving a diploma in Rural Development, graduating with honors. Soon after graduation she took a job in Virden, Manitoba as the Community Economic Development officer, where she met Kent Cameron, son of Jack and Betsy Cameron. In 2006, Tiffany and Kent were married. The couple makes their home in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. They own and operate an electrical contracting company called K. Cameron Electric. Kent is a Master Electrician, an avid hunter (so he loves the ranch due to the abundance of wildlife) and a welcome part of the Burgess family. The couples second child, Britt was born in 1984. After High School she attended SIAST in Meadow Lake, Sask. for Equine Studies. She worked out for a while but has returned to the ranch and has become the ranch hand in charge of training the registered Quarter Horses that are born and raised on the ranch. To finish out the family, a son, Lane Michael was born in 1986. He attended Lethbridge Community College studying Environmental Science. After a year of college, he took time off from school to get some work experience. So far his jobs have found him in Texas as a custom combiner, in Montana on a harvest crew, the oil patch in Sask. and back to Montana as a backhoe operator. Michael and Tamela are very proud of their children and wish only the best for their futures, be it home on the ranch with them or out in the business world. After years on the local church and school boards, Michael was elected to the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association (SSGA) Broad of Directors in 2000 and has served on the a number of different committees representing Sask. Producers. Tamela is kept busy all summer in her gallery entertaining tourists, from around the world, with stories of the notorious Big Muddy Outlaws. She also has a active roll in the SSGA, as she works with the Promotion Committee. In 2006, Tamela was elected to the Sask Party Weyburn- Big Muddy Constituency Board.
